On Thursday, June 21, Jean Middendorf, Barb Jacobson, and I headed for Green Bay, WI to attend the 55th Annual Lutheran Women's Missionary Society convention. After registering and checking into our hotel, we made our way to the KI Convention Center for the opening service. Over 1700 people watched as the 61 flags (representing the countries with WELS missions) were marched ceremoniously into the massive hall. Tears were wiped from many eyes at the overwhelming goodness of God as He blesses our mission efforts around the world.
The next 2 days were a whirlwind of devotions, workshops, moments with the missionaries, featured speakers, displays, and catching up with old friends and making new ones. Some one asked me what was my favorite part of the convention weekend.
Was it hearing how much our cards and letters of encouragement meant to our missionaries?
Was it hearing how Wendy from Missouri is laying the ground work for a mission start up in her home town?
Was it hearing how the synod's new Mission Journeys program positively affected its participants?
Or was it hearing the life of Martin Luther sung to the tune of "
I couldn't choose! I loved it all! It was extremely inspirational and an awesome way to recharge my mission battery.
My prayer is that more of you can join us next June in Des Moines, IA for the 56th Annual LWMS Convention.
